A Brief History
The plan to start the plannting of a church in Orlando, Florida came in 1986
when the Lord Jesus gave me a vision to plant 20 churches by the year 2000 in
North America.
Then as we obeyed the Lord in fullfiling the Vision in many different parts
of the USA and Canada, in 1989, we felt led of the Lord to consider starting the
work in Florida, especially in Jacksonville. We visited Florida two
times to do demographic studies. We concluded that after our church
planting work in Northern California, Jacksonville would be next.
Two months before we left California, a good friend of mine from Dallas, Texas
visited me in California and suggested to me to consider Orlando instead of
Jacksonville since there is no Filipino church there while they are two in
Jacksonville. Two weeks before our departure for Florida, we were
conviced that Orlando was the logical place to start.
In October 1991, we attended Grace Baptist Church not knowing that the
Pastor went to a Filipino restaurant to find a Filipino to invite. That
Sunday morning a couple came and after service, we had lunch
together. They invited us to the Filipino restaurant the following
Tuesday noon to meet other Filipinos. It was followed by two other
meetings in the same restaurant where we were introduced to many more
contacts. Plans were made for the first service the following
Sunday, October 13. Nine people came for the first worship
service. The Grace Baptist congregation was kind to give us the
youth room, for our use.
Since that first meeting the group grew from nine to around 30 to 40 attending
regularly. Thirteen people came to know Jesus so far.
The group sponsored four big affairs such as caroling (20 homes visited),
Christmas musical banquet (100 came), Christmas eve and new year's eve
services were attended by over 50 people. Regular home Bible studies
are being conducted on Thursday evening in two places alternately --Ocampo and
Arceno residences, Friday at 2 PM, - Cafe Lolita and Saturday evenings at the
Alilin residence. The key families are listed in the roll of charter
members.
Plans for 1992 to minister to the spiritual needs of members and contacts was
adopted. Aggressive Evangelism and visitation to reach some 1000
Filipinos in the greater Orlando area will be high priority. The
constitution, program for 1992 and appointed leaders were approved by the
congregation on January 19th, 1992. The church was officially
recognized by the BGC conference on January 25th, 1992.
The Lord has done a marvelous thing in establishing this, your church, in a
short time in answer to prayers. We have seen a great harvest so far
and we know that it is just the beginning.
